I have been a citizen of Cagayan De Oro City for many years now and I have seen our city grow and change throughout the years. Our city became more highly urbanized because there were many big companies that chose to expand their businesses here in our city and it offered many jobs for our fellow Kagay-anons. For example, sm downtown premier and Masaverte Residences condominium. However, the traffic in Cagayan de Oro city worsened and there were many environmental issues like air pollution and improper waste disposal which makes our city look unpleasant and dirty because garbages can be seen anywhere.
According to Wikipedia, Waste management (or waste disposal) are the activities and actions required to manage waste from its inception to its final disposal. This includes the collection, transport, treatment and disposal of waste, together with monitoring and regulation of the waste management process. Waste can be solid, liquid, or gaseous and each type has different methods of disposal and management. Waste management deals with all types of waste, including industrial, biological and household
Proper waste disposal is very important because if we will just throw our waste anywhere then there is a great chance that our environment will be at risk because our wastes might reach somewhere else. For example, if our wastes will reach our bodies of water, it can cause water pollution because there are products that contain harmful chemicals and it might kill the sea creatures or even the corals. Second, is that garbages such as plastics and bottles take a long time before it decomposes and it can harm our ozone layer. Lastly, if we do not practice proper waste disposal we might put our health at risk.
There are many ways to practice proper waste disposal. First is to have different trash bins for different kind of wastes. Second is to sort your wastes and identify if it is biodegradable or degradable. If you are planning to throw waste or product that still contains something most especially if it contains a chemical content that is harmful, seal it before throwing so that the animals will not get into it. There are also many ways to reduce our wastes, one thing that we can do is to reuse, reduce and recycle things that we think that we can still use in the near future. We should also use plastic bags instead of plastics because plastic bags are reusable. Lastly, we should stop using disposable things such as disposable plates, spoons, and cups but instead provide ourselves with the real ones.
